According to founder Ralph Rubio, he and some friends from San Diego State University were on spring break in San Felipe, Baja California when he first encountered fish tacos at a local stand, and was inspired to open a restaurant serving them in his hometown, San Diego. Since then, the popularity of fish tacos has spread throughout California, although they remain uncommon elsewhere.
Taco del Mar was auctioned in a bankruptcy sale on September 30, 2010, and the winning bid of $3.25 million came from Connecticut company Franchise Brands LLC, according to a story in the Seattle Times. Applebee's is an American company which develops, franchises, and operates the Applebee's Neighborhood Grill + Bar restaurant chain. The Applebee's concept focuses on casual dining, with mainstream American dishes such as salads, chicken, pasta, burgers, and "riblets" (which is considered Applebee's signature dish). All Applebee's restaurants feature a bar area and serve alcoholic beverages (except where prohibited by law). The Applebee's chain was founded by Bill and T. J. Palmer in 1980. They opened their first location in Decatur, Georgia, at the time named T.J. Applebee's Rx for Edibles & Elixirs.

Boston Pizza (BP), also known as Boston's The Gourmet Pizza Restaurant and Sports Bar, is a Canadian multinational restaurant chain that owns and franchises locations in Canada, the United States and Mexico. Boston Pizza began in Edmonton, Alberta, on August 12, 1964, when a Greek immigrant, Gus Agioritis, opened Boston Pizza and Spaghetti House. By 1970, Boston Pizza had 17 locations in Western Canada, 15 of which were franchised. One of the first franchisees was Jim Treliving, a Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer. In 1968, he noticed the growing popularity of Boston Pizza and purchased the rights to open a restaurant in Penticton, British Columbia.
Buffalo Wild Wings (originally Buffalo Wild Wings & Weck, hence the numeronym BW3) is an American casual dining restaurant and sports bar franchise in the United States, Canada, India, Mexico, Oman, Panama, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam which specializes in Buffalo wings and sauces. As of June 2017, it had 1,238 locations (625 directly owned by the company, and 612 franchised locations) across all 50 U.S. states and DC. An alternate nickname in recent usage by the company is B-Dubs. The company is operated out of Sandy Springs, Georgia, home to its parent company, Inspire Brands, just north of Atlanta.
The Rutkauskas' company, Beautiful Brands, also owns other franchise concepts including FreshBerry, a frozen yogurt chain. According to a May 14, 2013 article in the Tulsa World, the chain peaked at 107 restaurants in 2009. In the years that followed, two-thirds of the chain's locations have been closed, leaving 36 locations in the United States, and the chain has faced vocal criticisms from some franchisees as well as a lawsuit over the Middle Eastern franchise rights. Cantina Mariachi is a chain of franchised casual restaurants with a Mexican-style theme. It belongs to the Comess Group. * 1993. Berdejo family opens first restaurant in Zaragoza, Spain. 1999. In June, start of international expansion with opening in Lisbon, Portugal. As new units are launched, corporate umbrella is formed named Restmon. 2002. Restmon faces serious financial problems and looks for a buyer. In October, an association of franchisees sues Restmon for disloyal competition and misapplication of co-op marketing funds, among other allegations. 2003. Carlos'n Charlie's [sic] is a chain of casual dining Mexican restaurants, primarily located in Mexican and Caribbean tourist destinations. Carlos is Carlos Anderson, founder of Grupo Anderson's, who died in a 1990 plane crash, and Charlie is Charles Skipsey, his business partner. The company, founded in 1963, claims their more than 50 restaurants makes it Mexico's largest restaurateur. In addition to Carlos'n Charlie's, Grupo Anderson's has the Señor Frog's chain, along with other similarly-branded restaurants/bars like Carlos O'Brians and El Squid Roe. Carlos'n Charlie's restaurants averaged $3.6 million in 2005 with an average check of $22.50.
Cicis has won numerous awards and has also been named one of the top 25 performing brands by The Wall Street Journal and a top 200 franchise concept by Franchise Today. The award for worst restaurant ideas has also been awarded to the pizza chain. In November 2015, the company began a new marketing campaign which included the simplified renaming of the company to just Cicis with the modifier "Beyond Pizza," along with the addition of a new logo and redesigned website. The campaign is aimed at proving that Cicis has more to offer than just pizza.
