One feature is the ability to watch standard quality and 720p streaming movies and TV shows from Netflix through the Xbox 360. This feature is only available in the U.S. and Canada, and requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription and Netflix Unlimited. Users are also able to watch Netflix titles with their friends in a party of up to 8 players. Xbox Live members have the ability to view over 12,000 movies and episodes. Users can browse for titles based on their interests and Netflix ratings with the Xbox interface. Users no longer need to visit the website to choose the content to watch.

On December 4, 2017, Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, announced that production would restart in 2018 with Robin Wright in the lead, and revealed that the final season of the show would now consist of eight episodes. On December 24, 2018, Spacey posted an unofficial short film continuation of House of Cards titled Let Me Be Frank to his YouTube channel, in which, in-character as Francis "Frank" Underwood, he denied the allegations and stated that his character was not in fact dead. In Australia, where Netflix was not available prior to 2015, the series was broadcast on Showcase, premiering on May 7, 2013.

On December 24, 2018, Spacey uploaded a video, entitled Let Me Be Frank, onto his YouTube channel in which he appeared to deny the allegations while in character as Frank Underwood. Several of his fellow actors criticized and ridiculed his video on Twitter, including Patricia Arquette, Ellen Barkin, Jon Favreau and Rob Lowe. An article in The Sunday Times Magazine in 1999 stated that Spacey's "love affair with acting, and the absence of a visible partner in the life of an attractive 40-year-old, has resulted in Esquire magazine asserting two years ago that he must be gay".

Netflix's Gilmore Girls Revival Campaign: Netflix got a major branding boost from Snapchat in 2016 was the takeover of 200 local cafes to promote the revival of Gilmore Girls. Netflix recreated Luke's, which was the fictional café from Gilmore Girls. In the meantime, Netflix sent up 10,000 paper coffee cups with the Snapcode to the coffee shops around America and Canada. Users could get the exclusive Gilmore Girls Snapchat Filter by unlocking the Snapcode. Gatorade Lens Campaign: Gatorade came out with an animated filter on Snapchat to be one of the most innovative Super Bowl ads in 2016.

On July 6, 2016, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) announced Rec. 2100 that defines two HDR transfer functions—HLG and PQ. On July 29, 2016, SKY Perfect JSAT Group announced that on October 4, they will start the world's first 4K HDR broadcasts using HLG. On September 9, 2016, Google announced Android TV 7.0, which supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG. On September 26, 2016, Roku announced that the Roku Premiere+ and Roku Ultra will support HDR using HDR10. On November 7, 2016, Google announced that YouTube would stream HDR videos that can be encoded with HLG or PQ.

The rise of internet TV has resulted in cable companies losing customers to a new kind of customer called "cord cutters". Cord cutters are consumers who are cancelling their cable TV or satellite TV subscriptions and choosing instead to stream TV shows, movies and other content via the Internet. Cord cutters are forming communities.

Prior of that, rumors of the Babadook's sexuality began on October 2016 when some Netflix users reported seeing the film categorized as an LGBT movie on Netflix. Bee Movie (2007) – Sped-up or slowed-down clips of the film have become viral on YouTube. One upload by "Avoid at All Costs" exceeded 12 million views as of December 2016. The video and videos like it were taken down by YouTube in June 2017. From September 2013 onwards, a few Internet users posted the entirety of the Bee Movie script on sites like Tumblr and Twitter.

In 2010, Striker was the first Indian film to premiere on YouTube on the same day as it was premiered in theaters. On September 19, 2006, Funimation created an official channel on YouTube where they upload advertisements for box sets, as well as clips and preview episodes of their licensed series. In September 2008, they began distributing full episodes of series on Hulu. In December of the same year, Funimation added a video section to their main website with preview episodes of various series. In April 2009, they began distributing full episodes of series at Veoh. Full episodes are also available on the YouTube channel as well as on Netflix, the PlayStation Network (PSN) Video Store and Xbox Live/Zune Marketplace. The application launched for PlayStation 4 in March 2015.

Netflix and Telltale signed a partnership in June 2018 for Netflix to offer Telltale's games over the service starting later that year, with Minecraft: Story Mode as the first planned title for the service. Amid troubles related to the bankruptcy of Telltale Games in October and November 2018, sufficient staff remained with Telltale to complete work on this version, which was released onto Netflix on November 27 and December 5, 2018. Minecraft: Story Mode – Season Two was released on July 11, 2017 across five episodes, for Windows, macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, iOS and Android.
