J. Russell Peltz

The name was suggested by J. Russell Peltz, who began co-promoting professional boxing cards at the venue with Joe Hand, Sr. in May 2004.
A member of the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame, Peltz is best known for his fight promotions at the Arena, Spectrum, Blue Horizon, several Atlantic City casinos and currently at the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia and the PARX Casino in Bensalem, PA.

In June 2005, an unofficial ECW reunion show called Hardcore Homecoming: An Extreme Reunion drew a sell-out crowd and set a record gate for the venue with $135,000 in ticket sales.
The inaugural Hardcore Homecoming event was held from 8:00pm to 11:55pm on June 10, 2005 at the Alhambra Arena, formerly known unofficially as the ECW Arena, in South Philadelphia; this was two days before the WWE produced/promoted ECW One Night Stand 2005 reunion show that was held in New York City.

The NWA decided to hold a tournament for the vacated NWA World Heavyweight Championship through ECW at the ECW Arena in August 1994, which was won by ECW Heavyweight Champion Shane Douglas.
