It is named after its largest settlement, Walsall, but covers a larger area which also includes the towns of Aldridge, Bloxwich, Brownhills, Darlaston and Willenhall.

There is no conclusive evidence for this and Bloxwich has since at least medieval times been associated with the manor and town of Walsall (which for reasons unknown does not appear in the Domesday Book of 1086).
