The CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship is considered a secondary championship, with the CMLL World Tag Team Championship being the primary championship for the tag team division in CMLL. On February 14, 2018 then Arena Coliseo tag team champions Nuevo Generacion Dinamitas (El Cuatrero and Sansón) announced that they were giving up the championship to focus on a tournament for the vacant CMLL World Tag Team Championship that had just been announced.
It is the top championship promoted by CMLL, with the CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship and the Occidente Tag Team Championship considered lower ranked, regional tag team championships.

Esfinge

The current champions are the team of Esfinge and Tritón won the championship on March 10, 2018 by defeating Disturbio and Virus in the finals of a tournament.
On May 12, 2015 they successfully defended the championship against the CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Champions La Comando Caribeño (Misterioso Jr. and Sagrado).

On the night, the team of brothers Alan and Chris Stone (sometimes billed as "Motorcross") defeated the teams of Neutron and La Flecha, Ricky Marvin and Sombra de Plata and finally Fugaz and Virus to become the first CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Champions in the modern era.
After winning the CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship in November 2000, Moto Cross changed his name to Chris Stone on December 15, and the two became known as Los Hermanos Stone.

Due to sparse record keeping of local wrestling in Mexico between the 1960s and early 1980s no clear history exists from that time, it has been verified that Los Villanos (Villano I and Villano II), Kung Fu and Kato Kung Lee, and the team of Dios Rojo and Dios Negro all held the Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship due to references to the teams defending the championship at an EMLL show.
Villano I and II won the Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship in the early 1970s, but did not achieve much else while working for EMLL.

The preliminary rounds were held on June 22, 2008 and saw the teams of Stuka Jr. and Flash (Collectively known as Los Bombadieros; "The Bombardiers") and Los Infernales ("The Infernal Ones"; Euforia and Nosferatu) each win three matches to qualify for the final.
For years Stuka Jr. formed a team with Fuego, known as Los Bombadieros ("The Bombardiers"), who collectively he held the CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship for a record four and a half years.

On March 3, 2013, La Fiebre Amarilla ("The Yellow Fever"; Namajague and Okumura) defeated Fuego and Stuka Jr. to become the third modern age CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Champions, ending the previous champions' four and a half year reign.
While in CMLL he won his first professional wrestling title alongside Okumura, the CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship, in March 2013.

After a long-running rivalry with the then-champions Delta and Guerrero Maya Jr., La Comando Caribeño ("The Caribbean Commando"; Misterioso Jr. and Sagrado) became the fifth modern day Arena Coliseo Tag Team Champions on February 28, 2015.
Working as "Sagrado" Aparicio won the CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship with Misterioso, Jr. as well as having formerly held the Mexican National Trios Championship twice, with different partners as well as the Occidente Light Heavyweight Championship on one occasion.

El Cuatrero is the current CMLL World Middleweight Champion and at one point was held four championships simultaneously, which also included the CMLL Arena Coliseo Tag Team Championship (with Sansón), the Mexican National Trios Championship (with Sansón and Forastero) and the Occidente Trios Championship (with Sansón and Forastero).
