Chris Date (born 1941) is an independent author, lecturer, researcher, and consultant, specializing in relational database theory.
A second school of thought argues that if a database does not implement all of Codd's rules (or the current understanding on the relational model, as expressed by Christopher J. Date, Hugh Darwen and others), it is not relational.

Relational model

He was also involved with Edgar F. Codd’s relational model for database management.
There have been several attempts to produce a true implementation of the relational database model as originally defined by Codd and explained by Date, Darwen and others, but none have been popular successes so far.

The Third Manifesto

He is also the author of many other books on data management, most notably Databases, Types, and the Relational Model, subtitled and commonly referred to as The Third Manifesto, currently in its third edition (note that earlier editions were titled differently, but maintained the same subtitle), a proposal for the future direction of DBMSs.
The Third Manifesto (1995) is Christopher J. Date's and Hugh Darwen's proposal for future database management systems, a response to two earlier Manifestos with the same purpose.

Hugh Darwen

Darwen
He left IBM in 1983 and has written extensively of the relational model, in association with Hugh Darwen.
He works closely with Christopher J. Date and represented IBM at the ISO SQL committees (JTC1 SC32 WG3 Database languages, WG4 SQL/MM ) until his retirement from IBM.

Edgar F. Codd

He was also involved with Edgar F. Codd’s relational model for database management.
Codd continued to develop and extend his relational model, sometimes in collaboration with Christopher J. Date.

Fabian Pascal

In recent years he has published articles with Fabian Pascal at Database Debunkings.
Born in Romania, Pascal lives in the San Francisco, CA area of the US, and works in association with Christopher J. Date.

David McGoveran

McGoveran tackled the problem of view updating with Christopher J. Date starting in 1993 after having developed methods for reversible schema migration for clients on Wall Street.

Nikos Lorentzos

He is a specialist on the Relational Model of Database Management, having made contributions in the field of temporal databases, where he has co-authored a book with Hugh Darwen and Christopher J Date.
