The National Broadcasting Company (NBC) is an American English-language commercial broadcast television and radio network, serving as the flagship property of the NBC Entertainment division of NBCUniversal (itself a subsidiary of Comcast).

The company eventually formed other cable news services including MSNBC (created in 1996 originally as a joint venture with Microsoft, which now features a mix of general news and political discussion programs with a liberal stance), and the 2008 acquisition of The Weather Channel in conjunction with Blackstone Group and Bain Capital.

In February 1996, after former U.S. Republican Party political strategist and NBC executive Roger Ailes left cable television channel America's Talking (now MSNBC), Murdoch asked him to start Fox News Channel.

The company said the decision was unrelated to 21st Century Fox's proposed acquisition of the remainder of Sky plc (which ultimately led to a bidding war that resulted in its acquisition by Comcast instead).

It is primarily owned by Major League Baseball, with Warner Bros. Discovery through its sports division, Comcast's NBC Sports Group, Charter Communications, and Cox Communications having minority ownership.

The channel's headquarters and studios are located at their leased facilities in Secaucus, New Jersey, a building owned by Hartz Mountain Industries which formerly housed MSNBC's studios.
