A report on Duke of York, Duke of Albany and Duke of York and Albany

The equivalent title in the Scottish peerage was Duke of Albany.

The predecessor titles in the English and Scottish peerages were Duke of York and Duke of Albany.

However, King George II and Queen Victoria granted the second sons of their eldest sons the titles Duke of York and Albany and Duke of York respectively.

The title, along with the title of Duke of York, with which it has since been traditionally coupled, was created for a fifth time in 1604 for Charles, son of James VI and I.

The title "Duke of York and Albany" was granted three times by the Hanoverian kings.
