Many of those affected also have irritable bowel syndrome and fibromyalgia. Some people with IC/BPS have been diagnosed with other conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, allergies, Sjögren syndrome, which raises the possibility that interstitial cystitis may be caused by mechanisms that cause these other conditions.
Some people also report restless legs syndrome, bowel or bladder problems, numbness and tingling and sensitivity to noise, lights or temperature.

Urinary urgency

Symptoms include feeling the need to urinate right away, needing to urinate often, and pain with sex.
It is often, though not necessarily, associated with urinary incontinence, polyuria, nocturia, and interstitial cystitis.

Endometriosis

Other conditions which can produce similar symptoms include urinary tract infection (UTI), overactive bladder, sexually transmitted infections, endometriosis, bladder cancer, and prostatitis.
Other causes of similar symptoms include pelvic inflammatory disease, irritable bowel syndrome, interstitial cystitis, and fibromyalgia.

Hunner's ulcer

Hunner's Ulcers
During cystoscopy, 5–10% of people with IC are found to have Hunner's ulcers.
Hunner's ulcers occur in 5 to 10 percent of people who have the bladder disease Interstitial cystitis.

Tentative evidence suggests a relationship between autonomic nervous system dysfunction and diseases such as CFS, fibromyalgia, irritable bowel syndrome, and interstitial cystitis.

Men suffering from interstitial cystitis may experience intense pain at the moment of ejaculation.

Urinary tract infection

Other conditions which can produce similar symptoms include urinary tract infection (UTI), overactive bladder, sexually transmitted infections, endometriosis, bladder cancer, and prostatitis.
Interstitial cystitis (chronic pain in the bladder) may be considered for people who experience multiple episodes of UTI symptoms but urine cultures remain negative and not improved with antibiotics.

Glomerulation

Researchers, however, determined that this visual examination of the bladder wall after stretching the bladder was not specific for IC/BPS and that the test, itself, can contribute to the development of small glomerulations (petechial hemorrhages) often found in IC/BPS.
Glomerulation refers to bladder hemorrhages which are thought to be associated with some types of interstitial cystitis (IC).

Prostatitis

Chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome

In addition, men with IC/PBS are frequently diagnosed as having chronic nonbacterial prostatitis, and there is an extensive overlap of symptoms and treatment between the two conditions, leading researchers to posit that the conditions may share the same cause and pathology.
CP/CPPS and interstitial cystitis are sometimes referred to jointly as "UCPPS" (urologic chronic pelvic pain syndrome).

Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation

Percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation stimulators have also been used, with varying degrees of success.
These urinary symptoms may also occur with interstitial cystitis and following a radical prostatectomy.

Pelvic pain

In 2007, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) began using the umbrella term urologic chronic pelvic pain syndrome (UCPPS) to refer to pelvic pain syndromes associated with the bladder (e.g., interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome) and with the prostate gland or pelvis (e.g., chronic prostatitis/chronic pelvic pain syndrome).
Common causes in include: endometriosis in women, bowel adhesions, irritable bowel syndrome, and interstitial cystitis.

Dimethyl sulfoxide

DMSOdimethylsulfoxidedimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)
DMSO is the only approved bladder instillation for IC/BPS yet it is much less frequently used in urology clinics.
DMSO has been examined for the treatment of numerous conditions and ailments, but the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved its use only for the symptomatic relief of patients with interstitial cystitis.

Resiniferatoxin

The AUA guidelines also listed several discontinued treatments, including long-term oral antibiotics, intravesical bacillus Calmette Guerin, intravesical resiniferatoxin), high-pressure and long-duration hydrodistention, and systemic glucocorticoids.
RTX has also previously been investigated as a treatment for interstitial cystitis, rhinitis, and lifelong premature ejaculation (PE).

Urology

Less marked neurological abnormalities can cause urological disorders as well—for example, abnormalities of the sensory nervous system are thought by many researchers to play a role in disorders of painful or frequent urination (e.g. painful bladder syndrome also known as interstitial cystitis).

Pelvic pain generally, can affect anybody and has a variety of causes; endometriosis in women, bowel adhesions, irritable bowel syndrome, and interstitial cystitis.
