Walter Karl Koch (May 3, 1880 in Dortmund, Germany – 1962 ) was a German surgeon best known for the discovery of Koch's triangle, a triangular shaped area in the right atrium of the heart, and of Tawara's node, the atrioventricular node which is the beginning of the auriculo‐ventricular bundle (sometimes called the atrio-ventricular bundle).

It is located at the center of Koch's triangle—a triangle enclosed by the septal leaflet of the tricuspid valve, the coronary sinus, and the membranous part of the interatrial septum.
