Alphonse Elric

The story follows the adventures of two alchemist brothers named Edward and Alphonse Elric.
Alphonse is a child who lost his body during an alchemical experiment to bring his deceased mother back to life and had his soul attached to a suit of armor by his older brother Edward.

Roy Mustang

Mustang
Advised by Roy Mustang, an alchemist from the State Military, Edward becomes a State Alchemist, and starts traveling with Alphonse through the country of Amestris in order to find a way to recover their bodies.
In the series, Mustang is a State Alchemist of Amestris' State Military, as well as the superior of the series' protagonist, Edward Elric.

Aaron Dismuke

On the other hand, most of the English voice actors from the first anime reprised their roles for Brotherhood with the exception of a few such as Aaron Dismuke (Alphonse) and Dameon Clarke (Scar) who are replaced by Maxey Whitehead and J. Michael Tatum, respectively. In the second series, he is voiced by Unshō Ishizuka and Daisuke Namikawa (Young) in Japanese and John Swasey and Aaron Dismuke (Young) in the English dub.
He also voice the young Van Hohenheim, the Elric brothers' father in Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood.

Although they basically start the same, the first anime, midway through its run, begins to differ greatly from the original manga; characters that are killed early on in the manga survive to the end of the first anime and vice versa.
The first half of the anime's plot adapts the first seven volumes of the manga, but then the plots severely diverge from each other by the middle of the story, specifically around the time where Roy Mustang's friend Maes Hughes is murdered by the homunculus Envy in disguise.
