Wayland is in the northwestern part of the county, near the border of Livingston County and just north of Interstate 390 at the junction of NY-15, NY-21 and NY-63.

Officially, however, the route began overlapped with NY 21 south of Wayland, and in 2009 the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) made plans to remove all signage for NY 15 on I-86 and I-390.
The interchange also serves as the southern terminus of NY 15 and is adjacent to the north end of NY 415, which terminates north of the exit at NY 21.
