The Caesar salad finds roots in the cross border culture of 1920s American Prohibition, when San Diegans would take trips to Tijuana to legally consume alcohol. Caesar salad was invented by an Italian immigrant living in San Diego who owned a popular restaurant for drinking in Tijuana.
