Multiple-camera setup

Multi-cameraMultipleMulti camera
The single-camera setup originally developed during the birth of the classical Hollywood cinema in the 1910s and has remained the standard mode of production for cinema; in television, both single cameras and multiple-camera productions are common.
It is often contrasted with single-camera setup, which uses one camera.

Sitcom

Soap operas, talk shows, game shows, most reality television series, and sitcoms more frequently use the multiple-camera setup.
Many contemporary American sitcoms use the single-camera setup and do not feature a laugh track, thus often resembling the dramedy shows of the 1980s and 1990s rather than the traditional sitcom.

Soap opera

Soap operas, talk shows, game shows, most reality television series, and sitcoms more frequently use the multiple-camera setup.
Unlike daytime serials, which are shot on video in a studio using the multi-camera setup, these evening series were shot on film using a single camera setup, and featured substantial location-shot footage, often in picturesque locales.

I Love Lucy

Though multi-camera was the norm for U.S. sitcoms during the 1950s (beginning with I Love Lucy), the 1960s saw increased technical standards in situation comedies, which came to have larger casts and used a greater number of different locations in episodes.
Though some television series were already being filmed in Hollywood, most used the single-camera format familiar from movies, with a laugh track added to comedies to simulate audience response.

Television film

Single-camera is mostly reserved for prime time dramas, made-for-TV movies, music videos and commercial advertisements.
Typically, such movies employ a filmed single-camera setup even if the television series is videotaped using a multiple-camera setup, but are written to be easily broken up into individual 30- or 60-minute episodes for syndication.
