The Flaming Lips

James Blunt

British singer James Blunt was discovered by producer Linda Perry while playing a small show at the 2004 SXSW Music festival, and was signed to Perry's Custard Records soon thereafter, where he would go on to release all three of his subsequent albums.
Linda Perry, who was just launching her own Custard Records label in early 2003, heard Blunt's promotional tape when visiting London, and soon after heard him perform live at the South by Southwest Music Festival.

The film Short Term 12 won the grand jury award for Best Narrative Feature.

The Puffy Chair

A number of films now classified as mumblecore, including The Puffy Chair, Kissing on the Mouth, Four Eyed Monsters and Mutual Appreciation, were screened, and Eric Masunaga, a musician and the sound editor on Mutual Appreciation, is credited with coining the term "mumblecore" at a bar while at the festival.
The film had its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2005, and went onto screen at South by Southwest in March 2005, winning the Audience Award.

Cassius Khan

Canadians Cassius Khan, a renowned tabla player and singer performed with Amika Kushwaha on harmonium and were featured Canadians on CBC Canada's most favorite list.
Khan was also among few selected out of 8,000 applicants to showcase Ghazal/Tabla at South by Southwest in Austin, Texas in 2008.

Christopher Sabec

Among the people who heard them was A&R executive Christopher Sabec, who became their manager, and would soon afterward get them signed to Mercury Records.
