The Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (aka PLM) or University of the City of Manila is a city government funded and tuition-free local university situated inside the historic walled area of Intramuros, Manila, Philippines.
Manila has many of the Philippines' firsts, including the first university (1590), light station (1642), lighthouse tower (1846), water system (1878), hotel (1889), electricity (1895), oceanarium (1913), stock exchange (1927), flyover (1930s), zoo (1959), pedestrian underpass (1960), science high school (1963), city-run university (1965), city-run hospital (1969), and rapid transit system (1984; also considered as the first rapid transit system in Southeast Asia).

PLM's endowment in 2008 was valued at PhP 500 million, excluding budgetary allocation for its chief teaching hospital, the Ospital ng Maynila Medical Center, which was about PhP 250 million.
It is the laboratory hospital of health science students (students of medicine, nursing and physical therapy) enrolled at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, one of the Philippines' universities.

The six-member Board is composed of the president of the PLM, a representative of the PLM faculty, a distinguished alumnus, a respected educator, one other respected professional, and the superintendent of the Division of City Schools-Manila. Aside from Tayabas, the other members of the committee were City Administrators Dino Nable, Secretary to the Mayor Emmanuel Sison, Chief of Staff Pia Sacro, Division of City Schools-Manila Superintendent Ma. Luisa S. Quiñones, City College of Manila President Rodrigo Malunhao and Eulogio "Amang" Rodriguez Institute of Science and Technology President Maura Bautista.
The DCS-Manila Superintendent is mandated by Republic Act No. 4196 (now the PLM Charter) to be a member of the six-man Board of Regents of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Reyes was chosen as the PLM's first president.
He was appointed as the first university president of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila in 1967.

Benjamin Tayabas

A committee on the use of English was formed a week after the directive was passed, and it was headed by the then PLM President Benjamin Tayabas.

In 2001, Mayor Lito Atienza authorized the opening of three district colleges under the city government's university system.
The District Colleges of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila was established in 2001 through the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Manila Mayor, the Department of Education Secretary, the PLM President, and the Superintendent of the Division of City Schools-Manila.

He has served as the Dean of the College of Law of Liceo de Cagayan University in Cagayan de Oro since 2011 and as University President of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila from 2007 to 2009.

Magwayen Creative Scholars' Guild

Marulaya is the pioneer theater arts group of PLM created in 1998.
The Magwayen Creative Scholars' Guild (Or, simply Magwayen) is the premiere theater organization of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Among the issues were the low passing rates that it had received and its proposed transformation into a district college of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Hiyas ng Maynilad Dance Troupe

The President's Committee on Arts and Culture (PCAC) is responsible for building up the artistry and craft of the PLM students through its different cultural organizations, such as the Hiyas ng Maynilad Dance Troupe, PLM Rondalla, PLM Chorale, and the Mabuhay Marching Band.
The Hiyas ng Maynilad Dance Troupe is the official and premiere cultural dance company of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Ang Pamantasan

In 1979, seven years after its predecessor HASIK was padlocked following the declaration of Martial Law, Ang Pamantasan, the PLM's official university-wide student publication, was born.
The Ang Pamantasan (abbreviation: AP) is an independent student organization and the official student publication of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, one of the Philippines' most prestigious universities.

Alculympics

The PLM community regularly organizes inter-university invitational games and dual meets in major sporting events, participates in the Manila Youth Games and Manila Marathon, conducts its very own Student Intramural Games, and participates in the Alculympics, a sports organization composed of 18 local colleges and universities nationwide.

Intramuros Consortium

The PLM communities have also joined the Caritas Manila through Intramuros Consortium Outreach and Environment Committee (ICOEC) in its dental and medical missions in various communities.

The consolidated bill was thereafter passed by the joint Congress and was signed by Senate President Ferdinand E. Marcos and House Speaker Cornelio T. Villareal with Regino S. Eustaquio, Secretary of the Senate, and Inocencio B. Pareja, Secretary of the House of Representatives.
Victims included Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila student Liliosa Hilao, Archimedes Trajano and Juan Escandor.

While still at her first year of college at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Aicelle joined ABS-CBN's Season 1 of Star In A Million (2003), her first take on a nationwide televised singing competition.

Bunagan later earned a degree in mass communications from the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Manuel Buising

In literature and journalism, PLM has produced two recipients of Carlos Palanca Awards, such as Manuel Buising and Marlon Miguel, as well as a winner of journalism award, Jason Gutierrez (Asia Human Rights Press Awards by the Amnesty International).
He studied at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila and graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Education, Major in Filipino in 1972.

PLM Rondalla
