Verner's law by Karl Verner in 1875 describes a historical sound change in the Proto-Germanic language whereby voiceless fricatives *f, *þ, *s, *h, *hʷ following an unstressed syllable became the voiced fricatives *β, *ð, *z, *ɣ, *ɣʷ.wikipedia
