The Rines' broadcasting company, the Maine Broadcasting System, decided to sell their radio stations in the early 1980s to focus on their television properties (including WLBZ-TV, which the Rines had acquired in 1958); as a result, in 1981, WLBZ was sold to Acton Communications and became WACZ.
In 1981, WLBZ radio was sold-off, eventually becoming WZON; in 1997, the -TV suffix was dropped.
